The Halloween Tree in the Fairyland Forest

By calamity kim

Have you ever heard of the Fairyland Forest? Tales are told of magical talking trees that come alive on the full moon each month.

This tree is named Balthazar the Brave. I chanced upon him one bright full moon as I was wandering through the nearby woods.

I had no idea that he loved Halloween as much as I did!

As we spoke, he told me that he kept his happy jackolanterns lit each night to remind him of those wonderful evenings when the fairies dance about, catching fall leaves as they glide  on the cool breezes in September and October.

Fairies love to dress up and wear costumes and they have magnificent balls where they lure unsuspecting humans to dance all night! If you eat or drink anything while you are in Fairyland you will fall under their glamour and never be able to leave! Dancing until your bones turn to dust!

I like to imagine how the witches and fairytale characters would celebrate Halloween and this is my first offering for the eHAG ( Eclectic Halloween Art Guild) online marketplace for January.

Our theme was Jubilant Jacks and I loved being able to make wee Jack o lanterns and this cranky old tree for this months prompt.

Measures 8 x 11.5 x 3” deep

This handcrafted paper mache shadow box hangs from a wire on the back or can sit to be displayed.

The tree is sculpted using paper mache and spun cotton. The jacks are paperclay. The wallpaper inside the shadowbox is from a ledger book dated 1897!

I added oak leaves and acorns in paperclay to the outer front sections and gave it a wash in a sepia toned brown.

There’s a tiny patch of fairytale mushrooms and a sprinkling of mica gold glitter inside the jacks.

In my imagination there’s a touch of gold in everything that fairies touch!

Thank you for stopping by- this listing goes live at 9pm on jan 31.
